The American Landscape is a magnificent
backdrop; the blend of diversity both in its land and people provide for
endless shouting. My images are built on the irony & humor found in kitschy roadside creations as well
as capture the solemn found in the stillness & beauty of the vast typography
within our country.
The collection of photographs represented is the take-away from many ‘Americana’ road
trips and station wagon vacations. I travel simply; accompanied by my Mamiya
6, dog, road atlas and lots of film. Using a little planed serendipity as my
guide I have a knack for finding the unusual. Large kitschy structures, self
made monuments, decorative faux lawn animals and great roadside views are among
my favorite subjects to shoot.
I try to envision the people who shaped the masterpieces I collect on film.
I can only imagine that they are just as intriguing as structures they’ve created
and as welcoming as the landscape in which it occupies.
